History at St. Philip's
We aim to deliver a history curriculum that excites and ignites each child’s curiosity. History can be found everywhere. This means we will take advantage of local, national and world wide events and places, from the past to understand how they have influenced the present. This will come through a clear understanding of a range of historical concepts, such as continuity and change and cause and consequence. Through stimulating, challenging and thrilling experiences and activities, children will be able to picture themselves and significant events and people in a chronological timeline. Children will have chance to ask and answer questions, build a rich vocabulary, understand abstract terms, think critically and use a range of sources for their own research.
Black History Month 2024
October is Black History Month and this year's theme is 'Reclaiming Narratives'. This theme is focusing on using authentic black voices to shine a brighter light on real stories and history, while also correcting inaccurate narratives of black history and culture.
This month, we spent some time learning about Black History Month and thought about the authenticity of the materials that we were looking at. Each class focused on one important person.
